Kryon^® 23 is a non ozone-depleting replacement for R-503 and R-13 in the low side of very low temperature (VLT) applications using cascaded compressors.

These applications typically operate with evaporator temperatures between –40°C and –100°C, and include environmental test chambers, constant (very low) temperature freezers, and process cooling.

Kryon^® 23 is an azeotropic, non-ozone depleting refrigerant; it is nonflammable and has zero ozone-depletion potential.

With regard to the refrigerant charge, it is possible to use the same parameters used for the products to be replaced (HCFC R-13 and R-503); anyway, it is recommended to replace the expansion vessel with one of larger size.

The optimal refrigerant charge is between -10% and -20% compared to that of R-13 and R-503.

Being azeotropic, it can be topped of directly in case of gas leakage from the system.

The refrigerating capacity of the R-23 is higher than that of R-13 and lower than that of R-503; as regards to energy efficiency this is equivalent to that of the R-13 and lower by about 10% with respect to that of the R-503.

Given its very high GWP value, R-23 will be subject to strong limitations resulting from the progressive implementation of the European F-Gas Regulation n° 517/2014.

Lubricants: The R-23 is compatible with synthetic lubricants POE.
